Medical kits

It’s always a good idea to have medical kits around the house and in the car in case of emergency. However, when you are camping the further you are from civilization the more essential it is that you carry medical supplies. You must carry a first aid kit tailored to the type of trip you're taking and the number of people accompanying you.

Familiarize yourself with different medical kits and then when you pick one for your trip make sure you know how to use everything in it. During an emergency you won't have time to read instructions or ask other campers for help.

It might also be helpful to take a first aid course that makes you more familiar with items and medical kits. When considering what you need for your basic first aid some common items are aspirin, antiseptic, antihistamines, etc. Medical kits are sold at different price points and there are specialty kits available for specific trips like banking, canoeing, and camping.
